"When I met Noel Sonkwa, I immediately knew that my search was over. DJ Sonkwa has all of the qualities that I look for in those working with me. He is as talented at being a DJ as he is an MC--and he understands how important his role of facilitating an event is for those celebrating. Sonkwa 'gets it' and takes it to the next level in true AKE fashion!"

DJ SONKWA: Talent Coordinator-DJ Division
Sonkwa's early musical influences stem from his Cameroonian roots (See: Manu Dibango or Henri Dikongué). His beginnings in the N.Y. jazz scene are discernable throughout his music. Matured further thanks to his cousin, D.C. jazz legend Brian Settles, Sonkwa learned that musical freedom, "does not end with the music.” These influences jump-started his venture into modern and break dancing.
In addition to being a master DJ and dancer, Sonkwa excels as an MC (Master of Ceremonies). He connects with audiences and “plays what they did not know they liked.” Guests who have heard him perform laud both his turntable abilities and his skill at engaging the audience.
In 2005, Sonkwa began to promote electro and house events at famed NYC venues, such as APT, Cielo, Studio B, Galapagos, and Pacha. Adding to his artistic development, residencies at Tavalon and Micheliens allowed him to experience absolute freedom of creativity within the art of DJ-ing.
Sonkwa moved to Washington, DC in 2008 and quickly earned a reputation for his inventive and infectious DJ skills…and became a favorite personality within the event industry.
