As an entertainer I wanted to take a minute and pay tribute to the person who I consider to be one of the biggest artistic influences on my career, the man who made it cool for a guy to be a dancer in the mainstream, and from whom I stole so many dance moves over the years. Michael Jackson has influenced entertainers around the world for 40 years.
I choose to remember the Michael Jackson who sold over 170 million albums. The artist with 13 number one hits as a solo artist and who was there at the beginning of the Motown era with the Jackson 5. The MJ who still holds the record for the best selling album of all time (Thriller, with over 100 million sold worldwide) and reached out to unite everyone with “We Are the World.”
The first time I saw the music video of “Billie Jean” I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, and as soon as I was able to begin my career as a dancer I auditioned with his moves. Everyone in the entertainment world lost an icon and this is indeed a sad day. I’ll end with a quote from Michael Jackson himself: “In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
